Today, Carolina Eye remains committed to this Golden Rule philosophy, sparing no expense in treating patients. We use state-of-the-art technologies and eye care practices. Care is never denied to anyone who needs help, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.
Our founding doctors learned of a new model for care called an ambulatory surgical center (ASC). The concept of outpatient surgery complemented our Golden Rule philosophy. Patients would be treated in a manner that kept additional personal inconvenience and cost to them at a minimum.
At the outpatient center, patients would remain awake during surgery while receiving local anesthesia. This meant they could have surgery and return home the same day.
Carolina Eye, which provided services not found anywhere else in North Carolina, applied for and received the first outpatient Certificate of Need for an ophthalmic ASC east of the Mississippi and was one of the first freestanding outpatient eye surgery centers in the U.S. to be certified by Medicare and accredited by the Joint Commission.
Today, the practice is a multi-subspecialty eye center where board-certified ophthalmologists, along with a team of optometrists, physician assistants, ophthalmic technicians, and support staff, provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services.
These services include state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and corneal disease.
